New to Lasercutters?

Certification is Required

These lasercutters are expensive pieces of machinery and require regular attention and the utmost care during use. Preparing documents for cutting on these machines take time and some level of expertise.

We do not allow users to access the lasercutter equipment without prior training. The College of Design hosts frequent Certification Sessions occuring regularly throughout the academic year. These sessions provide information and demonstrations of the proper usage of the lasercutters. These sessions last approximately one hour, and are REQUIRED before a user can begin cutting. Certification sessions take place in the lasercutter room 220A Leazar Hall, next to the Materials Lab.

Scheduling Reservations

The Design Laser System is our system for managing and controlling our equipment. In order to reserve times to use the lasercutter, you must download and install it on your own computer (or use one of our lab or cluster computers). The software is available for both Windows and Mac OS X users.

Once you have installed the software, click on the "Create Account" button in the lgoin window and you can register with the system. You will also select a Certification Session to attend. Please make a note of which session you plan to attend.

Questions During Use?

If you have questions during your use of the lasercutters, or with the Design Laser System, please contact design_help@ncsu.edu or ask the lab attendant at the IT Lab checkout window in 203 Brooks Hall.
