Biography
Kofi Boone worked for 10 years at JJR (formerly Johnson Johnson and Roy), a Midwestern interdisciplinary design firm, prior to teaching at the College of Design.Professor Boone is developing tools to empower diverse communities to partner in the design process. His research stems from the intersection of Environmental Justice principles and best practices in Landscape Architecture at community and urban scales. Professor Boone explores these issues regionally and abroad, including studio and research work in Ghana, West Africa.
Professor Boone teaches Site analysis and planning, Landscape architecture theory and criticism, Advanced landscape architecture communications, Advanced design studios, and Ghana study abroad summer studio. He won the College award for outstanding extension service in 2008, Department Professor of the Year in 2009, and the Opal Mann Green Engagement Scholarship Award in 2010.
Professor Boone specializes in community design, urban design, design communications, advanced media, and international issues. Current work includes design development of public space associated with the African American Music Trail (Kinston, NC) “Cell phone Diaries” (a mutli-disciplinary research project empowering stakeholders to document their own narratives of place using mobile technology), in suburban and developing partnerships for building sustainable landscapes in Ghana, West Africa.
