Biography

Dr. Cho’s expertise is in the energy modeling and performance simulation for the design and development of sustainable buildings. His research and work experience includes energy savings calculation, high-performance building design, energy-efficient systems design, renewable energy systems integration, and performance Measurement and Verification (M&V).

Since 1999, Dr. Cho has conducted numerous research projects related to energy efficiency and thermal comfort in the built environment. In his Ph.D. research, Dr. Cho developed a methodology to develop an easy-to-use simulation tool for the selection of high-performance systems. This tool was designed to help building practitioners make quick design decisions for their design projects. His M.S. thesis research was to verify the reasons of energy savings degradation over time after commissioning. This project was funded by USDOE and California Energy Commission (CEC). He has further conducted more research on this topic after the completion of his M.S. degree in the Energy Systems Laboratory at Texas A&M University.

Prior to joining the faculty of NC State University, Dr. Cho was an Assistant Professor of Architecture for three years at The Catholic University of America in Washington DC, where he developed core courses in the Master of Science in Sustainable Design program.
